Ingredients

For the Bread
  • 1 cup canned pumpkin puree
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips optional

Equipment

  • Loaf Pan
  • Large Bowl
  • Separate Bowl

Method

  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x5-inch loaf pan to ensure easy removal.
  2. Step 2: In a large bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, sugar, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until everything is well combined.
  3. Step 3: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Step 4: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the pumpkin mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix!
  5. Step 5: Divide the batter in half. Stir the cocoa powder into one half until it is well mixed.
  6. Step 6: Alternate spooning the pumpkin batter and the chocolate batter into the prepared loaf pan. Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the two batters together for a beautiful marbled effect.
  7. Step 7: If you’re feeling indulgent, sprinkle chocolate chips over the top of the batter.
  8. Step 8: Bake in the preheated oven for 60-70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Step 9: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
