Ingredients

For the Scones
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg

Equipment

  • Pastry cutter or fork
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons
  • Whisk
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper
  • Knife or pizza cutter for slicing

Method

  1. Step 1: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Step 2: In a large bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, chopped pecans, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Step 3: Add the cold cubed butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Step 4: In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and egg.
  5. Step 5: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  6. Step 6: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently a few times. Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick.

  8. Step 8: Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Step 9: Allow the scones to cool slightly before serving.
