Easy Homemade Mayonnaise

Nothing beats the taste of fresh, homemade mayonnaise. It takes me back to my childhood when I would help my grandma in the kitchen, mixing and blending with excitement. The moment you taste that creamy goodness, you'll understand why making it at home is so special. Plus, it's easier than you think and can be ready in just a few minutes!

Ingredients

Base Ingredients
  • 1 large egg The base for our mayonnaise, it helps create that luscious texture.
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard Adds a nice kick and depth of flavor.
  • 1 tbsp white wine vinegar or lemon juice This is your acidity to balance out the richness.
  • 1 cup neutral oil (such as canola or grapeseed) This is what gives your mayo its creamy body.
  • Salt to taste, essential for enhancing all those yummy flavors.

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Immersion Blender
  • Airtight Container

Method

  1. Step 1: In a mixing bowl, combine the large egg, Dijon mustard, and white wine vinegar or lemon juice. This is your flavor base.
  2. Step 2: Using an immersion blender, blend the mixture until well combined. You want everything to meld together nicely.
  3. Step 3: With the blender running, slowly drizzle in the oil. This step is crucial as it helps the mixture thicken and emulsify.
  4. Step 4: Once the mayonnaise reaches your desired consistency, season with salt to taste. Give it a little taste test!
  5. Step 5: Transfer the mayonnaise to a clean container and refrigerate until ready to use. Homemade mayonnaise tastes best fresh!

Notes

Store your homemade mayonnaise in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will last for about a week, but trust me, it will be gone before you know it!
